In just a couple weeks, Picking up the Pen will be celebrating it’s first anniversary! To celebrate, I’d though we’d do another giveaway. Originally, I wanted to pick The Bitter Kingdoms by Rae Carson, which I fell in love with earlier this year. Then I realized that since it’s the third book in a trilogy, I’d be losing entries from people that haven’t read the first two books. So, like the Pantomime giveaway, I decided to let people pick which book in the series that they want to win. Haven’t read book one? You can enter for that. Want to move on to book two or three? Then you can select either of those.
For those unfamiliar, here’s the summary of The Girl of Fire of Thorns from goodreads.
Elisa is the chosen one.
But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can’t see how she ever will.
Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.
And he’s not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.
Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.

Here are the books you can pick from for the contest: The Girl of Fire and Thorns (book 1), The Crown of Embers (book 2), The Bitter Kingdoms (book 3), or The Girl of Fire and Thorns Stories (a collection of 3 novellas staring side characters). Now keep in mind that The Girl of Fire and Thorns Stories isn’t set to be released in print until August, making this a preorder. The winner will be announced on May 11th (so make sure you enter by the 10th!), Picking up the Pen’s One Year Anniversary. We’ll be using The Book Depository again, making this an international contest.
If you’d like to enter, please fill out this googledoc form. It will ask for you name, mailing address, what book you’d like, and you’re email address so I can contact you if you’ve one. All information will be deleted after the contest. You don’t need to be a follower of Picking up the Pen to enter, but if you’d like to learn about future giveaways, it’s not a bad idea.
